Armor Piercing Gauss Cannons(APG) and their larger brothers are unlocked by Armor Piercing Rounds
Use Notes Edit
APG compete with Gauss Cannons and Sniper Cannons for the very particular genre of Small Ballistic Weapon, which is a role usually only required on Destroyers. Whether its best thought of as a lower range, higher refire rate Sniper or a longer range, lower damage Gauss Cannon is up to personal interpretation. However when the enemy starts fielding Polysilicate Alloys, Gauss Cannons drop out of the equation altogether, and it becomes a choice between close range APGs or long range Snipers.
APGs will ricochet off of ships with one of the four armors, but ricochets will still impart kinetic force. All Sniper Cannon damage will be completely negated by Grav Shields, and Shield Projectors, but shouldn't be affected by Deflectors.

Final Commentary Edit
When comparing against Gauss Cannons, pay attention to the inaccuracy numbers. Gauss cannons require some form of fire control section or they need to be deployed en masse via a Strafe Command Section against large targets in order to work. The APG can be slapped on any design and make a decent showing.
